　　1 他死了。He died. 

　　换成：He passed away. 

　　或者:He did not make it. 他没有挺过来。

　　如，你问医生：How's my friend?

　　医生说：Oh, I'm sorry. He didn't make it.

　　2 洗手间  washroom, toilet 特别是这个toilet听起来好脏呀。

　　换成：Where's the little boys' room? 男盥洗室在哪？

　　Where's the ladies' room?女盥洗室在哪？

　　3 残疾 handicapped 或者disabled

　　换成They are mentally challenged. 他们有智力缺陷

　　They are physically challenged. 他们有生理缺陷。

　　4 某人很胖 He or she is fat.   

　　换成：She is full-figured. 她哪里都有肉。

　　He has let himself go.  他放飞自己了

　　5 他下岗了。 He's fired. 

　　换成：He's laid off. 或者 He's between jobs.

　　6 偷来的。 It is stolen.

　　换成：I got something off the back of the truck.

　　7 二手车 a used car

　　换成： a previously enjoyed car

　　8 怀孕：She is pregnant.

　　我觉得她可能怀孕了。 I think she might have a bun in the oven.

　　You know what? I think she's knocked up. 你知道吗？我觉得她被搞怀孕了。  (最后这个不怎么委婉。它表达的是同一件事情，怀孕。但是它有点负面的含义。有种意外怀孕，一夜大肚的意味)
